The Artspace Buffalo project is an amazing live/work facility. The $16.9 million project, ArtSpace's first in New York State, has created 60 units of affordable live/work housing for artists and their families - 36 units in the five-story historic Buffalo Electric Vehicle Company building at 1219 Main Street, plus 24 units in six new fourplexes on vacant land immediately behind it. In addition to the residential units, the project has created almost 10,000 square feet of commercial space on the street level, which will be leased to arts organizations and arts-friendly businesses. Housing projects that receive federal Low Income Housing Tax Credits are required to rent to households whose annual incomes are below the Area Median Income (AMI). In the Buffalo-Niagara Falls area, the current AMI for a family of four is $58,300.
