"The “Concerned Citizens Following The Dream” Committee will present the Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration program on Sunday ,January 16th at 5:45 p.m. at Kleinhans Music Hall, located at Symphony Circle. Kleinhans will come alive as we honor Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and his legacy with song, dance and performing arts.
The theme is: “Where Do We Go From Here?” keynote Speaker will be Rev. Darius G. Pridgen, pastor of True Bethel Baptist Church. Many talents will be performing in honor of Dr. King and his dream. Among the participants will be the African Cultural Center Dancers, Full Gospel Tabernacle Choir, Performing Arts Choir, The Philharmonic Gospel Chorus, Jennifer Suarez, Devoted to Dance Ministry and many more including National Recording Artists, the M.D.A. Fellowship Choir of Detroit, Michigan.
The theme “Where Do We Go From Here?” was taken from one of Dr. King’s books. One of his quotes in that book is “Together we must learn to live as brothers, or together we will be forced to perish as fools, the question is, do we have the morality and courage required to live together as brothers, and not be afraid?” The 2011 honorees for the celebration are Florence Baugh, the Legacy Award, Robert Baxter, the Education Award, Rev. & Mrs. Michael Chapman, Community/Builders Award, Michael A. Rivera, the Community Service Leadership Award and D.Bruce & Gail Johnstone, the Humanitarian Award. Scholastic students from public schools with high G.P.A.’s will also be honored.
This event is free-to-the-public and is sponsored in part by Hispanics United of Buffalo, M&T Bank, Wegman’s supermarkets, CAO of Erie County, 1199 SEIU Healthcare Education Project, Westside Community Services, ECMC Hospital, Brian K. Lewis Funeral Home, UNYTS, National Federation for Just Communities of WNY, The Belle Center, and the Buffalo Teacher’s Federation. Bessie Patterson is the Chairperson/Coordinator of this event.
