The Italian Zust
competed against
the Thomas Flyer in
the 1908 Race
Around the World. On Wednesday, May 14th the automobile will be unveiled and displayed for the first time in nearly 100 years. Excerpts from the Italian driver's journal will be presented. Tickets purchased before May 10th are $35.00 and will be $45.00 thereafter and at the door. All proceeds to benefit the museum. Hospice Memorial Walk: The Hospice Memorial Walk will take place on Sunday, May 18th at the Erie Basin Marina (near the Naval Park and the Hatch). Celebrate memories with a day full of fun at this walk where you'll enjoy games, clowns, face painting, special guests and prizes - not to mention a fabulous picnic! Juneteenth Festival: The 33rd Annual Juneteenth Festival of Buffalo will take place on Saturday, June 14th and Sunday, June 15th. The Festival will be at Martin Luther King Jr. Park. The event kicks off with praise and worship from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. The parade begins at 11:00 a.m. from the corners of Genesee and Moselle Streets and proceeds down Genesee into the Park. Festivities in the park will take place until 8:00 p.m. on both evenings. Sunday morning praise and worship will be from 9:00 am until 12:00 noon. The fun-filled family weekend is the third largest in the country. Its mission is to “actively preserve and promote the broad spectrum of African American heritage through educational and cultural activates that will benefit the community as a whole.” Juneteenth headquarters are located at 1517 Genesee Street in Buffalo. Up Buffalo 2008 on
Saturday, June 14. Since
1996, this all-volunteer
organization has
repainted more than
220 homes for
low-income
homeowners in Buffalo. This year, Brush Up Buffalo comes to the Lovejoy neighborhood and will repaint 15 to 20 homes. No experience is necessary. Register today at www.brushupbuffalo.org —it takes only a minute to do. Teams are encouraged, and those with 30 or more volunteers can repaint a home on their own. Volunteers must meet at the Central Terminal no later than 7:15 a.m. on the day of the event, and will receive a t-shirt, breakfast, bus shuttling to and from the houses, refreshments, and a picnic lunch upon completion. Paint and some supplies are provided. Make history and follow Western New Yorkers as Brush Up Buffalo revitalizes the Lovejoy neighborhood directly around P.S. #43 Lovejoy Discovery School, which is undergoing reconstruction.
