About
Crowded House
Crowded House
- Crowded House is rock group from Melbourne, Australia. Members currently include Neil Finn (vocals and guitar), Nick Seymour (bass), Mark Hart (key and guitar) and Matt Sherrod (drums).
- Original members of Crowded House, then known as Mullanes, were Neil Finn, Nick Seymour and Paul Hester. They wanted to be trio so that they could all fit into one rental car. After adding guitarist Craig Hooper, for a short time, the group hit the roads of Australia and began to make a name for themselves.
- In 1985, the group headed to Los Angeles and eventually signed with Capitol Records. They changed their name at the request of their new label. They decided on Crowed House because it mocked their living conditions in their L.A. apartment.
- The band self titled debut in 1986 did not gain much attention due to poor support from Capitol. Instead of going out on a high profile tour, Crowded House began playing acoustic sets for industry insiders.
- A year after the original release of Crowded House, the album broke into the American Top 40. The album generated two hit singles, “Don’t Dream It’s Over” and “Something So Strong.”
- The sophomore follow up, Temple of Low Men, produced the single “Better Be Home Soon” which peaked at #50 on Billboards Hot 100. The acoustic version of the song peaked at #2 back home in Australia.
- After a few years away from recording and touring, Crowed House returned with the release of Woodface in 1991. The album brought back together brothers Neil and Tim Finn along with Seymore and Hester.
- “Weather with You” and “Fall at Your Feet” from Woodface became signature songs for Crowded House. During an international tour, Tim parted ways with the band and Mark Hart joined.
- In 1993, Crowded House recorded their fourth album, Together Alone, which debuted on the English charts at number four and the embarked on a European tour.
- After performing an official farewell show at the Sydney Opera House to 100,000 fans, Crowded House parted ways. Neil worked on side projects and reunited with Tim for the long awaited release of The Finn Brothers album.
- In 2005, Hester took his own life after battling years of depression. That same year, Neil began to make music with Seymore again. Neil felt it was right to put another chapter in the book.
- Crowded House formed again with the addition of Matt Sherrod on drums. The group recorded and released Time on Earth in 2007. They began to play a variety of festivals and shows throughout Australia and the U.S.
- The bands next album Intriguer is set be released in June 2010. They embarked on a European tour in May of 2010.
