- Cypress Hill is an American hip-hop group from California with members including Louis (B-Real) Freese (lead rapper), Eric Bobo (percussions), Sen Dog (rapper).
- Cypress Hill, having one of rap music’s most unique sounds, was the first Latino group to have platinum and multi-platinum albums. They have sold over 18 million albums worldwide.
- The member of Cypress Hill, originally called DVX, formed in 1986. They introduced their own sound that fused Latin and hip-hop slang together. In 1988, they renamed themselves Cypress Hill after a local Street in L.A.
- In 1991, they released their self-titled album after signing with Ruffhouse/Columbia. The album went on to sell two million copies in the U.S. and the group made their first appearance at Lollapalooza in 1992.
- Cypress Hill’s second album Black Sunday debuted at #1 on the Billboard 200 in 1993. They became the first rap group to have two albums in the top 10 of the Billboard 200 at the same time.
- The single “Insane in the Brain” became a crossover hit and helped the album go triple platinum in the U.S. and sell 3.25 million copies.
- In 1995, the group toured with the fifth Lollapalooza Festival and released their third album, Temples of Boom.
- During the next few years members the group worked on solo projects. They reconnected for the release of IV in 1998. The Album went gold in the U.S. with help from the hit single “Tequila Sunrise.”
- In 2000, Cypress Hill released the double-disc set Skull & Bones. The idea of the album was to divide it into two separate albums, Skull being the hip-hop disc and Bones being the rock disk. The album reached the Top 5 on the Billboard 200 chart.
- Cypress Hill experimented with reggae with the released of Till Death Do Us Part in 2004. The album featured appearances by Damian Marley, Prodigy, Tim Armstong of Rancid and Mobb Deep.
- 2007 saw Cypress Hill tour with their full line up on the Rock the Bells Tour and headline with Public Enemy, Wu-Tang Clan, Nas and Rage Against the Machine.
- The eighth studio release for the group, Rise Up, was released in April 2010. Cypress Hill is continuing to achieve success and embarked on a tour that began in April 2010.
