Alejandro Escovedo and The Sensitive Boys
- Alejandro Escovedo is a singer song-writer from San Antonio, Texas. He comes from a very music oriented family whose parents immigrated from Mexico.
- At a young age, Escovedo was exposed to the sounds of Elvis and Chuck Berry. Growing up in Texas he heard the beginnings of rock and county music with a little bit of blues.
- Once his family moved to California, Escovedo was exposed the music of Ike and Tina Turner, James Brown, Thee Midnighters and the 103rd St. Watts Rhythm Band.
- Escovedo began his career in the 1970’s with the San Francisco punk band, the Nuns. He then moved to Austin, Texas in the 1980’s and adopted a roots rock alternative country style.
- During the early 1980’s Alejandro and his brother Javier formed True Believers. They recorded two albums and toured the country, often opening for Los Lobos.
- Escovedo released his first solo album, Gravity in 1992. The album showcased his wide variety of musical styles.
- Thirteen Years, which was released in 1994, added triple violins, harp and cello to Escovedo’s already diverse sound. Charlie Sexton performed as a guest guitarist on the albums single, “Losing Your Touch.”
- Escovedo performed on Whiskeytown and Ryan Adams Strangers Almanac. He sang on three tracks. Whiskeytown covered a True Believers song on the re-released Stranger Almanac, Deluxe Edition.

- The release of Bourbontis Blues was Escovedo’s first project with producer Chris Stamey. The album was as confession of love, desire and consequence. Stamey and Escovedo collaborated again to create A Man Under the Influence.
- By the Hand of the Father began as a play that explored the Mexican-American experience during the 20th century. On the album, Escovedo wrote most of the lyrics and sung most of the vocals.
- At the time of By the Hand of the Father release, Escovedo fell very ill from Hepatitis C. He took some time off the road to recover.
- The Boxing Mirror which was produced by Jon Cale in 2006, after his recovery, was an emotional album for Escovedo. To date he still is uncomfortable performing some of the material.
