About
Keller Williams
Keller Williams
- Keller Williams is a one-man, jam band who has been called “guitars mad-scientist.”
- Williams has a distinct stage presence. He dances barefoot in place, alternately spinning out long solo lines and bouncing chord clusters that draw listeners. He dances into his own private world of rhythm and melody.
- Williams refers to his music as solo, acoustic jazzfunk reggae technograss or simply solo acoustic dance music.
- Williams is from Fredericksburg, Virginia where he began playing solo gigs at the age of 17. He received his first guitar at the age of three but didn’t really learn to play it until he was in his early teens.
- Starting in 1993, Williams recorded three albums, Freek, Buzz and Spun. All three he self-released on his own account.
- He then moved to Steamboat Spring, Colorado for two years. It was there where he met members of the progressive bluegrass band, String Cheese Incident. He began touring with them as an opening act in 1997 and 1998.
- In 1998, Williams signed with String Cheese Incident’s label, SCI Fidelity. Throughout the years with SCI Fidelity label, Williams has released an album almost once a year. Each of his albums carries only one word titles.
- Williams’s 2007 release, Dream, features 16 tracks of unblemished material. Williams once wrote out a long and ambitious wish list of artists that he’d like to collaborate within the studio. His so-called Dream came true with his ninth studio album. He worked with Bob Weir, Victor Wooten, Charlie Hunter, Derrek Phillips, Steve Kimock, John Molo, Martin Sexton, The String Cheese Incident, Sanjay Mishra and Fareed Haque to name just a few.
- Keller Williams toured the country during the summer of 2007 with Bob Weir and RatDog. They shared the stage both separately and together, making music and doing what they do best. He also made an appearance at the 2007 Bonnaroo Festival.
- It was announced that Keller will be playing as a member of the Rhythm Devils with Grateful Dead drummers Bill Kreutzmann and Mickey Hart at the Gathering of the Vibes festival in 2010.
