Tift Merritt
- Tift Merritt is a triple threat artist from North Carolina who is talented in singing, song-writing and playing the guitar.
- As a young child developing an interest in music she became drawn to acoustic-oriented artists such as Joni Mitchell and roots music artists such as Emmylou Harris. She then discovered the alt-country scene.
- Tift became a popular figure in North Carolina appearing with the bands Two Dollar Pistols and the Carbines.
- Tift’s debut album Bramble Rose was released in the spring of 2002 after signing with the music label Lost Highway.
- Her follow up album, Tambourine, showcased a more classic soul sound. The album displayed a mature, confident side of Tift. She earned a Grammy Award nomination and three American Music Association Award nominations.
- The single “Good Hearted Man” reached #60 on the country singles charts.
- Tift released the album Another Country in 2008 after signing with Fantasy Records. Charlie Sexton appeared on the album playing the electric guitar and My Morning Jacket front man Jim James is featured on the track “Feel of the World.”
- Tift’s most recent album, See You on the Moon, was released in 2010 and is her more primitive work to date.
