Slightly Stoopid
- Slightly Stoopid is Miles Doughty (guitar, bass and vocals), Kyle McDonald (guitar, bass and vocals), Ryan Moran (drums), Oguer Ocon (congas, percussion, harp and vocals), C-Money (trumpet, keyboard) and Dela (saxophone)
- In 1995, while still high school students, Miles and Kyle caught the attention of Sublime vocalist Bradley Nowell who signed them to his own Skunk Records label.
- Playing punk rock, Slightly Stoopid released its first two albums independently on Skunk, their self titled debut in 1996 and Longest Barrel Ride in 1998.
- After a couple of years of juggling constant gigs and recording a legitimate new studio album, the band released a live CD from an hour long live acoustic set from San Diego’s Rock 105. This opportunity allowed the band to create their own Stoopid Records imprint.
- In 2003, Slightly Stoopid released their first studio produced album since 1998, Everything You Need. This album was the culmination of the band reaching towards the next step creatively, allowing them to carve out their own brand of music without abandoning where they started.
- Ocean Beach, California’s Slightly Stoopid released their fifth album, Closer to the Sun in 2005. Blending acoustic rock and blues with reggae, hip-hop and punk, the band has cemented a signature sound and created a loyal following of die-hard fans in the process.
- Recorded at Total Access studios and released on Stoopid Records/Caliplates Recording in conjunction with Reincarnate Records, Closer to the Sun is jam packed with 20 new hits that both clarified and further cemented the group’s trademark sound.
- Closer to the Sun debuted in the Billboard top 200 charts and sold more than 25,000 records in just the first eight weeks of being released.
- Supporting such acts as The Marley Bros, Sublime, The Roots, G. Love & Special Sauce, Blink 182 and performing at The Warped Tour, Slightly Stoopid appeals to a wide demographic of music fans.
- The band’s fan club, dubbed Ese Locos or Stoopidheads, attend nearly 200 live shows a year. The group’s touring schedule usually has them tied into two-plus hours of improv jamming sessions, five days a week.
- The buzz surrounding Slightly Stoopid continues to increase with each album release and their album sales have topped the 700,000 mark.
- In 2008, the band issued their first-ever ‘odds and ends’ collection, Slightly Not Stoned Enough To Eat Breakfast Yet Stoopid. The collection was the bands newest release for their growing label, Stoopid Records and included outtakes from both the Closer To The Sun and Chronchitis sessions as well as new material recorded at Miami’s Circle House Studios.
- Slightly Stoopid, through all their years of rock and roll, remain devoted to the pursuit of the perfect combination of lifestyle and sound. With their latest album, the group proves that hard work, perseverance and staying true to their roots is their way of carving out genre-bending music with integrity.
