Rotary Rink at Fountain Plaza
2009 - 2010 marks the 12th Annual free ice skating season at Downtown Buffalo’s only outdoor ice rink. Located at the corner of Main and Chippewa Streets in Fountain Plaza, Buffalo Place will once again operate Rotary Rink for the winter season. In 1998, Buffalo Place Inc. entered into a partnership with the City of Buffalo to operate the Rink and offer FREE ice-skating. The program has proven to be very popular and offers families the unique opportunity to skate outdoors in an urban setting surrounded by many of Buffalo’s architecturally significant buildings.
Buffalo Place has taken on the added responsibility of operating all parts of the skating program internally, adding to rink operations with concession and skate rental counters. Buffalo Place expanded the menu and added more programming throughout the season. Rotary Rink opened in 1991, the result of 10 years of design and planning. The name Rotary Rink is derived in recognition of the Rotary Club of Buffalo’s commitment to the project and their generous donation of $500,000.
Buffalo Place continues to operate Rotary Rink and Buffalo Place Operations supplies personnel to maintain the ice and clean the public portions of Rotary Rink Atrium. This heated Atrium offers concessions and skate rental for $2.00 for children and $3.00 for adults. Rotary Rink is available for birthday parties and other special events and Buffalo Place provides chairs and tables, helping to make these outdoor skating parties a memorable and unique experience. If you would like to book a party at Rotary Rink call Buffalo Place Inc. at 716/856-3150.
Rotary Rink is open Tuesday through Friday from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Saturday the Rink is open from 11:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. and Sunday it is open from 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Don’t forget that this outdoor skating Rink is weather dependent.
